McGregor issues new statement after video with alleged sexual assault victim
Conor McGregor has issued a fresh denial in response to allegations he sexually assaulted a woman at this month’s NBA Finals. The 34-year-old was in attendance as the Denver Nuggets beat Miami Heat in Game 4 to win the championship.
McGregor denied the allegations in an initial statement, but has since elaborated after two new videos were published by TMZ. The first video appears to show McGregor speaking to a woman before they walk into a bathroom where the door shuts behind them.
In the second video, the MMA fighter can be seen flexing while singing next to a woman. The footage was reportedly shot inside the Kaseya Center just hours after the NBA Finals.
In response to the footage, McGregor’s team issued a new statement, reading: “After the video was released by TMZ, the claimant’s lawyer now has changed her story. Mr. McGregor welcomes the investigation, which he firmly believes will show the claims against him are false.
“After not responding to the demand for money made by claimant’s counsel, she turned to the media to apply pressure. This is no more than a shakedown.”
Following the reports, Miami Heat also posted a statement which read: “We are aware of the allegations and are conducting a full investigation. Pending the outcome of the investigation, we will withhold no further comment.”
In a separate statement, the UFC have said: “The organization is aware of the recent allegations regarding Conor McGregor & will continue to gather additional details regarding the incident. UFC will allow the legal process to play out before making any additional statements.”
The news came shortly after McGregor hospitalised a mascot during a promotional stunt mid-game between the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat. The Irish fighter twice punched the Heat’s mascot ‘Burnie’ before spraying him with the promotional product.
It has since been revealed that the person inside of the mascot suit was taken to hospital. The video went viral on social media following the event.
McGregor is set for a return to the octagon to face MMA fighter Michael Chandler later this year. The pair have been filming the most recent series of The Ultimate Fighter 31.
