Jon Jones has revealed he could "hear Ciryl Gane's spine popping" after locking him in a guillotine choke to win the vacant UFC heavyweight title at UFC 285.

Jones made Gane tap out to the choke in just over two minutes to earn a superb submission victory, marking a triumphant return to the octagon having not fought since a contentious light heavyweight title defence against Dominick Reyes over three years ago.

Reflecting on his win over Gane and the guillotine choke, Jones told Sports Illustrated: "I locked it up twice. The first time, I could hear his spine popping.

"I gave him a nice chiropractic adjustment. The second time, he didn't want that same ratchet on his neck, and I put my arm on his neck and choked him out.

"I didn't expect it to go that quickly. But that's what we were looking for—the win and domination."

Jones is widely regarded as the greatest UFC fighter of all time and called for a bout with Stipe Miocic after defeating Gane, saying: "Stipe Miocic, I hope you're training, my guy. You're the greatest heavyweight of all-time, and that's what I want. I want you — real bad."

Miocic holds the record for the most UFC heavyweight title defences ever with four, but has not fought since March 2021 when he lost the title to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. Dana White has already confirmed Jones will defend his title against Miocic later this year.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, White said: "I don't know when, but he's definitely fighting Stipe. Can anybody deny this guy [Jones] is the GOAT anymore?

"Not only is he is the greatest light-heavyweight ever but he also looks like the greatest heavyweight ever too. The guy is unf****ng believable, he seriously is. There is no doubt Jon Jones is special, he's fought all the best competition out there."
