‘Donald Trump phoned me after major UFC victory – he f***ing loves fighting’
Justin Gaethje received a call from former president Donald Trump after his victory over Dustin Poirier.
Trump is a huge fan of mixed martial arts and is regularly seen sitting alongside UFC supremo Dana White. Gaethje has also been friends with the multi-billionaire for many years and was even seen supporting one of his presidential rallies during the failed 2020 election campaign.
However, it was Trump’s turn to become supporter for the 35-year-old who avenged his disappointing loss over Poirier in 2018 to claim the symbolic ‘BMF [Baddest Mother F***er] belt.
Shortly after his emphatic victory over ‘The Diamond,’ Gaethje was congratulated by the 77-year-old.

“I got a call from Donald Trump, that was awesome,” he said to TMZ. “He f***ing loves fighting man.
“He called me and just told me how good I did, how proud of me he was, how impressive the show was. [And] If I ever wanted to, and if I was ever in New York or Florida, to hit him up and hopefully play some golf.”

Trump will be hoping his next phone call to ‘the Highlight’ will be when he wins the lightweight world championship. Gaethje’s victory over Poirier means he has staked a claim to be next in line for a shot at the lightweight belt, which is currently held by Russian star Islam Makhachev.
However, he was also called out by none other than ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor, who appeared to hint he would be willing to cool off his expected bout with Michael Chandler to take on Gaethje instead.

But the unphased former champion brushed off the Irishman’s challenge. “I think he's turned me down six times and usually, you have to lose to fight him,” Gaethje said after the bout.
“So I don't know what's going on.” He also added: “I don’t know, I don’t really care. Whatever. I fight MMA, I like to fight big fights.”
