Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier’s mega PPV sales beaten by Khabib Nurmagomedov
Conor McGregor proved his huge selling power by attracting the second biggest audience in UFC pay-per-view in history for his bout with Dustin Poirier.
The Notorious fell to a second round defeat to Poirier at UFC 257, but Dana White was the real winner as the fight sold a whopping 1.6 million buys worldwide.
It is thought that 1.2m of those sales were on ESPN+, which is only available in the USA.
That places UFC 257 second in UFC’s top PPV fights sold, with McGregor’s iconic bout at UFC 229 against Khabib Nurmagomedov still sitting top on 2.4m buys.
McGregor actually holds all five of the most sold UFC fights in history, and seven of the top 10, which demonstrates his indispensability to the sport and Dana White.
Forbes claim that despite losing to Poirer, McGregor will take home at least £18m for his involvement at UFC 257.
In contrast, Poirier is expected to earn just £730,000, as his PPV shares are likely to be drastically smaller than his opponents.
Ahead of the fight, UFC chief White spoke out about cracking down on illegal streams, and even revealed after the event that he had brought down one man’s whole streaming site.

I told you guys that we found the guy and we were watching him.
“He put out a statement that night, said ‘I will not be streaming the McGregor vs. Poirier anymore, but I will show you how to buy it legally’ and put out this huge statement.

“Now his whole streaming service has been deleted and is gone. Disappeared. One down and a s*** load to go. I’m ready.
“Every event I’m going to go after one of these guys. One of these or more, we’ll see.
“And who you are guy that did this, good move, we had you, pal. I don’t know if he knew or something but we had you. All you had to do was pop up that stream and you were in big trouble. He did the right thing.”
