Conor McGregor snubbed as Donald Trump tells Dana White two favourites

Donald Trump has revealed his top two fighters in the UFC – and former featherweight and lightweight double-champion Connor McGregor doesn’t make the cut. The former United States President was seen sitting cageside at UFC 287 alongside franchise boss Dana White, as well as Mike Tyson and Kid Rock.

Throughout the night, Trump leapt out of his seat as cheers of “USA” drowned out the Kaseya Center. Over the years, Trump’s love of mixed marital arts has remained unknown, but now White has lifted the lid on his support for the sport.

On an evening where Israel Adesanya dethroned middleweight champion Alex Pereira with a brutal knockout, a reporter instead asked about Trump’s attendance.

Asking about his support on the night, the journalist questioned: “What sort of fight fan is he? Is he the sort of guy who wants to see a brawl or does he want to see a technical back-and-forth?”

White, met with a smile on his face, responded: “So this guy [Donald Trump] calls me twice a month and will talk to me for an hour about the fights that have happened. He knows everybody, he knows what they did and who they fought last. He’s a huge fight fan. Loves this stuff.”

Trump’s favorite fighter amongst the roster was then revealed, as White sensationally revealed to another reporter: “Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal.”

It should come as no surprise that the 76-year-old, who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, chose Covington and Masvidal as his favourites, with the fighters widely known as devout Trump supporters.

Covington received a congratulatory on-air phone call from Trump after he coasted to victory in a fifth-round win over Tyron Woodley in 2020. He visited the White House two years prior, with Covington a public supporter during Trump’s reign as President.

Much like Covington, Masvidal also linked up with Trump during a day-long bus tour across Florida in 2020 called “Fighters Against Socialism”. Masvidal later revealed to Insider that Trump labelled him a “bad motherf***er” and invited him to visit the White House.

The same, however, can’t be said for McGregor, who Trump seemingly snubbed when naming his favourites in the franchise.

In 2020, Trump marked Martin Luther King Day by hailing his own achievements in reducing unemployment among African Americans. McGregor was quick to praise the presidency of the New York native.

Addressing his large following, now standing at 9.9m followers, McGregor responded: “Phenomenal President. Quite possibly the USA goat [greatest of all time]. Most certainly one of them anyway, as he sits atop the shoulders of many amazing giants that came before him.”
