Conor McGregor has posted a video of himself back in training ahead of his UFC comeback next year after over 12 months away from the sport. McGregor has not fought since he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier in July 2021, before the doctor stopped the fight, which gave him his second loss to the opponent in the same year.
The Irishman is now preparing for his comeback though, with rumours of a potential move up to welterweight. However, he has also spoken on a potential bout with Charles Oliveira – who is set to face Islam Makhachev for the lightweight belt later this month.
McGregor has now been back in training for some time, although taking time off to film a remake of ‘Road House’ alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. After wrapping up productions on the film within the past days, he has seemingly stepped his training up – releasing a two-minute video of a sparring session.
In the video, he showed his ‘new move’ in which he sets up his opponent up by dropping his left shoulder before quickly lunging forward with a devastating left punch – stumbling his opponent – moments before attempting a spinning back kick.
Captioning the post, McGregor said: “What’s up my students! Here is another brand spankin’ “Conor McGregor Created” shot for you all. I know you’ve never seen this one before. Like the rest of them. A fake spinning back kick into a back hand rifle.
“I call the shot ‘the tiocfaidh ar la’ Our day will come. Shout out and tag and support all the companies in that cage and that gym, they are mine. Praise be to the hours I’ve put into my craft. If you’ve seen the amount of hours I’ve put into my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so masterful at all.”
McGregor will now spend the next few months training before making his return in the first quarter of 2023. Who he will fight, and the weight he’ll be at, it not yet known.
However, with four losses in his last seven fights, he’ll hope to get a comeback off to a winning start if he is to be in the championship picture at lightweight or welterweight.
