Conor McGregor involved in ‘altercation’ with backup fighter at Poirier weigh-in

Conor McGregor has reportedly been involved in a 'minor altercation' at the weigh-in for his fight with Dustin Poirier this weekend.

Earlier on Friday, the Irishman stepped onto the scales at 156lb for the bout on Saturday evening.

But soon after, a cryptic tweet emerged from fellow UFC fighter Rafael dos Anjos who also attended the event.

The 36-year-old, who is the reserve fighter for McGregor should Poirier pull out or get injured, posted: "Conor you’re such a snake, sneaking from behind and playing tough.

"Soon or later we will finish business. I’m not like the guys you play around with."

Marc Raimondi, an ESPN reporter, then tweeted: "There was a minor verbal altercation between McGregor and dos Anjos backstage at the UFC Apex during weigh-ins.

"That’s what this tweet is referencing."

When Dos Anjos was tipped to be the backup option this week, McGregor took to Twitter, saying: "Put dos Anjos in at the same time."

But the South American fighter hit back, tweeting: "Alcoholic hallucinosis from drinking cheap whiskey until 3:39am."

McGregor heads into this weekend's trilogy needing a win to keep his reputation as being able to fight at the top level.

The 32-year-old suffered defeat against Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018 before beating Donald Cerrone.

January's defeat to Poirier makes it 1-1 between the two fighters ahead of this weekend's decider.

McGregor has been back to his usual self this week, backing himself to beat his American opponent.

Speaking at this week's press conference, he said: "I’m going to go through his head, put holes in him and take it off his shoulders, that’s the goal here.

"He's done here, this is it for him, this is the end of the road.

"It's on, Saturday night he's getting walked around that octagon like a dog and put to sleep.
