Conor McGregor and Khabib ‘avoided confrontation by 30 seconds’ at Fight Island
Footage from inside the UFC Fight Island hotel shows that rivals Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov avoided meeting by just 30 seconds.
The two fought back in 2018 with Khabib stopping the Irishman, though plenty has been said since the bout.
They remain rivals and could fight again, though McGregor’s current focus is on Dustin Poirier who he meets on Saturday.
UFC fights are currently being held on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Khabib has been present as he continues to debate whether to return to the Octagon having previously announced his retirement.
And the Russian was just around the corner as McGregor arrived over the weekend ahead of his first fight in a year.
The coast was clear as McGregor got out of his car, with Conor Jr in his arms, entered the hotel and seemingly went to his room.
Though footage shows that Khabib and his entourage walked through the lobby just seconds after McGregor had passed through.
A meeting could have ended in a confrontation given the history between the pair with Khabib’s coach Javier Mendez suggesting it be wise the two don’t collide.
Conor McGregor’s prediction for first Dustin Poirier fight was scarily accurate
He said: "I would think that they would try to avoid Khabib and Conor meeting.
"That would be smart, I would agree. I think 100 per cent it makes sense to avoid them meeting.
"People always ask me what I think about Conor as a fighter, not as a person. As a fighter he's fantastic, one of the best I've ever seen but as a person I don't like him.
Conor McGregor insists he's still champion as Khabib Nurmagomedov ceremony never happened
"I don't like what he does, I don't like him speaking about country, religion, family. Just the art of war type tactics. I don't think it should ever come into play in the fight game.
"Talk trash to him but leave all that other stuff alone, he did his research, he attacked all those things, talking religion, talking country, that's the reason I don't particularly care for him."
