Wimbledon protests anger Brit as Rafa Nadal ‘shows up’ – Things missed on Day 3
Day Three at Wimbledon had the likes of Katie Boulter, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic pull off impressive wins but Just Stop Oil’s double protest stole the headlines. However, Express Sport were able to pick up a number of things you may have missed while on the grounds at SW19.
‘Are you kidding me’
The Just Stop Oil protests took centre stage at Wimbledon on Wednesday with Court 18 being the target. Katie Boulter ended up capitalising on the interruption when her first-round match was disrupted while she was losing in the first set tiebreak.
But the British No 1 was heard complaining about the timing of the protest to a friend as she left the court. She said: “At 4-2 in the tiebreak, are you kidding me?”
Rafa Nadal ‘shows up’
So not quite….
Josh Berry is well known among tennis players around the world for his spot-on impersonations and the comedian was at Wimbledon on Wednesday. The British comedian was spotted around the grounds by Wimbledon’s radio team, who pretended to have found Nadal – with Berry impersonating the Spaniard.
He joked about Nadal’s son playing Wimbledon next year and that Djokovic will win ‘6-0 6-0 6-0 against someone in the final’. Probably not a farfetched prediction on this year’s performances…
Wimbledon power couple goals
Mixed doubles this year at Wimbledon is set to be a true love affair with two famous couples teaming up in the mixed doubles. Newly-formed lovebirds Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa are joining together while Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur will do the same.
“It’s something we’ve both wanted to do for quite some time. It’s going to test our relationship. I don’t doubt that for a minute,” Boulter said. “No, it’s a totally different vibe going on the court with him. I think we bring the best out of each other, in terms of tennis, on and off the court. I think we’re going to have a couple of smiles on our faces, enjoying ourselves.
“Yeah, he’s obviously got a lot more experience than me in doubles, and I’ll be looking to draw off him.”

Sue Barker returns
Sue Barker is no longer part of BBC’s Wimbledon coverage after officially retiring from broadcasting last year. But the legendary broadcaster was back at Wimbledon on Wednesday as she took her seat in the royal box.
Barker was sat alongside AELTC Chair Philip Brook in the royal box, which also featured England and Manchester United icon David Beckham.
Murray the comedian
Frances Tiafoe has thrown a “curveball” by claiming Andy Murray is one of the funniest men on the ATP Tour. The British sporting icon is a popular figure among his fellow professionals and it seems as though his popularity is due in part to his humour.
Tiafoe said: “I’m just going to throw a curveball, you guys won’t really think. I’m going to put Andy Murray in there. Very dry humor. Very, very funny. You guys think he’s boring or whatever, but I think he’s hilarious. Man, I love that guy.
“We get along really well. Yeah, he’s not one people think about, anything about funny. He’s definitely very funny.”
