Wimbledon 2021 men's singles draw: Federer, Djokovic and Murray learn fate

Andy Murray will make his long-awaited return to singles action at Wimbledon against Georgia’s 24th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Murray, the three-time Grand Slam champion from Dunblane, has not featured in the men’s singles event since hobbling out of the 2017 quarter-finals against Sam Querrey.

Murray could meet Canadian 10th seed Denis Shapovalov in the third round, with fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on course to await him in the quarter-finals.

Roger Federer, who was the champion in the last singles event Murray attended, will begin his chase for a ninth title against Adrian Mannarino.

Top seed Novak Djokovic, who has landed in the opposite half of the draw to Federer, is targeting a third straight Wimbledon title – and sixth in total – and will open against British wildcard Jack Draper, who burst onto the men’s scene at Queen’s with a run to the quarter-finals.

Djokovic has won both majors so far in 2021 and has made no secret of his desire to win the Golden Slam, by winning Wimbledon, the Olympic Games and the US Open.

Grand Slam champions Rafael Nadal, Juan Martin del Potro, Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem have already pulled out of the event.

Murray’s compatriots Dan Evans and Cam Norrie – who could face Federer in round three – are both seeded and will begin against Spain’s Feliciano Lopez and France’s Lucas Pouille respectively.

British wildcard Liam Broady will take on Italy’s Marco Cecchinato in the opening round. Jay Clarke, meanwhile, will face Egor Gerasimov.

Aussie Nick Kyrgios faces Ugo Humbert, whom he defeated in this year’s Australian Open.

Second seed Daniil Medvedev will face Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round and has a potential meeting with former runner-up Marin Cilic in round three.
