US Open ace Dominic Thiem responds to fuming Alexander Bublik after sweary rant
Dominic Thiem has responded after Alexander Bublik reportedly launched an X-rated rant during their match at the US Open. The Austrian came through 6-3 6-2 6-4 for his first Grand Slam match win since January 2021. And Bublik was heard complaining that he keeps helping injured players get victories in their respective comebacks.
Bublik crashed out of the US Open on Monday, extending his losing streak to four defeats in a row. The 26-year-old caused a stir during the match, smashing his racket after losing the second set and receiving a code violation.
But it was something that the Kazakh said to his team in Russian that drew attention on Twitter, as Bublik allegedly said: “I’m f***ing sick of getting all these disabled people back in their career.” Bublik is yet to confirm whether he made the remark but the interpretation has been circulating online.
Thiem was asked about the world No 27’s comments after the match, admitting that they were disrespectful after asking whether they were correct. “Well, I don’t know if the translation is right,” the former world No 3 said before a journalist informed him that they had checked the translation.
