Taylor Fritz’s girlfriend aims to bring tennis back to the Playboy mansion
Taylor Fritz’s girlfriend Morgan Riddle, has proposed a fun idea to her followers as she mooted bringing back an old celebrity tennis tournament that used to take place at the Playboy mansion. She found out about this 70s event from an old magazine and shared it on her Instagram story.
The picture she posted showed a young Hugh Hefner welcoming famous faces like actors Jaclyn Smith, James Caan and Dennis Cole, and former Romanian tennis player Ilie Nastase. Surprised by this discovery, Riddle suggested to her 200,000 followers: “Reading a magazine from the 70s – apparently the mansion held an annual celeb tennis tournament and I think we should petition to bring it back.”
The Playboy mansion isn’t new to hosting tennis events. In 2007, British doubles star Jamie Murray played a match there with partner Eric Butorac. This was after a season where he won the Wimbledon mixed doubles with Jelena Jankovic. Their game at the mansion was an exhibition match for charity just days before the Los Angeles Open.
“We’re kicking off the week by playing an exhibition match at the Playboy mansion,” Butorac said. “I don’t know if ‘living the dream’ even does justice to the life we are living.”
The mansion has also hosted other sports, including a 2007 MMA show that attracted A-listers and rising fighters. At this event, a young Jorge Masvidal competed against Matt Lee, winning in front of celebs like Jaime Pressly and Joe Rogan.
A second event was held months later but didn’t do well. It was one of the last sports events before Hugh Hefner’s death in 2017.

Riddle’s idea to bring tennis back to the mansion follows her boyfriend, Fritz’s successful year. The 26 year old won two titles – the Atlanta Open and the Delray Beach Open – and had some big wins, including reaching the US Open quarterfinals.
Fritz defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas at the ATP Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo, beat Holger Rune in Miami and overcame fellow American Frances Tiafoe at the ATP 500 in Acapulco.
Fritz ended the season on a low note, losing to Daniel Altmaler in the round of 32 at the ATP Masters in Paris. He wrapped up the year as World No. 10, marking his second consecutive year in the world’s top ten.
