Sky Sports announce Henman and Navratilova to front US Open coverage
Sky Sports have confirmed their punditry and commentary line-up for the 2023 US Open as the broadcaster prepares to cover tennis for the first time in eight years. It was announced back in December last year that Sky Sports had signed a new five-year agreement with the United States Tennis Association to air the US Open from 2023.
The move was seen as a chance to ride on the coattails of Emma Raducanu’s fairytale success at the US Open back in 2021. Her success acted as a huge boost to tennis in the UK with an increase in participation up and down the country after the victory.
Now Sky Sports have announced their star-studded line-up that will lead the coverage for this year’s US Open. Gigi Salmon will front the coverage with tennis icons Martina Navratilova and Tim Henman set to join her.
Jamie Murray, Laura Robson, Johanna Konate, Marion Bartoli, Jordanne Whiley and Feliciano Lopez complete the line-up for former and current tennis stars also joining the coverage.
They’ll be joined by broadcasters Karthi Gnanasegaram, Emma Paton, with Jonathan Overend. Amazon Prime Video previously held the rights with the USTA, but decided against renewing its exclusive rights package.
That led to Sky Sports jumping in, having previously aired exclusive rights of the US Open for 25 years. Amazon’s previous five-year deal with the USTA was said to be worth around £30million, while they also purchased the rights for both ATP and WTA Tours.

As part of Sky Sports’ new agreement, they’ll have access to all individual cort feeds.
The broadcaster state that Sky Sports subscribers will be able to watch all courts for the first time on Sky Sports via their Sky Glass, Sky Stream, Sky Q and app.
It was reported at the end of the year that Sky Sports are also in the running to take both the ATP Tour and WTA Tour coverage from Amazon starting next year.
They’re supposedly worth around £15m a year each with Amazon thought to be turning their attention more to UEFA Champions League football and the Premier League.
