Serena Williams considering naming second child after Disney villain
Serena Williams bids farewell to tennis after US Open defeat
Serena Williams has joked that she could name her next child after one of her favourite Disney characters after revealing that she was pregnant for the second time at this week’s Met Gala. The 41-year-old debuted her baby bump on the red carpet alongside husband Alexis Ohanian before confirming the news on social media by sharing a series of photographs that were taken before stepping out.
The couple are already parents to five-year-old Olympia but will soon be welcoming another child into their lives, with Williams thanking Met Gala organiser Anna Wintour for inviting ‘the three of us’ onto the red carpet at the glitzy event. The former tennis star has since taken to TikTok to speculate about potential baby names, reeling off a number of her favourite Disney heroes and villains as she explained her love for the iconic films made by the production company.
“I was thinking about… I don’t know the gender, I don’t know if we’re having a girl or a boy,” began Williams. “So, I’m thinking about some names and I was like maybe I should do something with my favorite Disney characters because I love Disney and as you know, I’m like their biggest fan.
“So, if it’s a girl, it could be like Maleficent, that’s how you say it? It could be Scar if it’s a boy, love Scar, misunderstood a little bit. What else? Gaston, how could I forget Gaston?

“Ursula, classic, got to love Ursula. Lady Gothel, maybe I can call her Lady Gothel if it’s a girl. So just been through these names. Telling you, I’m onto something.”
It remains to be seen what Wiliams and Ohanian will eventually decide to name their second child, who will be their first to be born after the former’s retirement from professional tennis in August of last year. She revealed at the time that her decision was influenced by her desire to grow a family, writing in Vogue that her daughter often said that she wanted to be a big sister.

“Sometimes before bed, she prays to Jehovah to bring her a baby sister,” wrote Williams. “I’m the youngest of five sisters myself, and my sisters are my heroes, so this has felt like a moment I need to listen very carefully to. Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family, I don’t think it’s fair.
“If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labour of expanding our family. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a woman and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia… but I’m turning 41 this month and something’s got to give.”
