Support has flooded in for Emma Raducanu after she revealed that she has undergone surgery and will be ruled out of the summer events. The 20-year-old has endured an underwhelming season and is hoping that resolving several of her injury woes will help her bounce back to form.
Raducanu shared a photo of herself from her hospital bed on Instagram revealing that she was set to undergo ‘minor surgery’ on both hands, whilst also dealing with an ankle problem so that she can return in prime condition.
The news came as a surprise to many given that the French Open and Wimbledon are just around the corner, with many of Raducanu’s rivals sending her well wishes.
American star Coco Gauff was quick to comment on the post, saying “Get well soon Emma”, with Leylah Fernandez following suit with a similar message of: “Get well soon!”

Several other stars sent their wishes, with emojis prominent in the comments section of the Instagram post. Australia star Priscilla Hon sent a series of hearts, with Anna Kalinskaya sending her rival some sad faces to show her concern.
Caty McNally also replied: “Get well soon” with a series of heart emojis, as Raducanu was flocked with support in what will be a tough road to recovery given that there will be three different problems being nursed whilst the competitions go on.
Though the 2021 US Open winner will be the first to admit that surgery was required for her own greater good, having previously delayed an extended spell on the sidelines. When announcing the trio of surgeries, she wrote: “It is safe to say the last 10 months have been difficult as I dealt with a recurring injury on a bone of both hands.
“I tried my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and end of last year by reducing practice load dramatically, missing weeks of training as well as cutting last season short to try [to] heal it.
“Unfortunately, it’s not enough. I’m having a minor procedure done on both hands to resolve the issues. I’m disappointed to share that I will be out for the next few months and while I am at it will have another minor procedure that is due on my ankle.
“It pains me that I will miss the summer events and I tried to downplay the issues so I thank all my fans who continued to support me when you did not know the facts. Looking forward to seeing you all back out there.”
