Raducanu £100m net worth looks far off as Brit set for rankings drop
Emma Raducanu suffered another disappointing setback on Tuesday as she crashed out of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in the first round. A quarter-finalist last year, the Brit will now lose 100 ranking points and has another 120 to defend at her next event in Madrid. It leaves Raducanu a long way off the £100million net worth she was tipped to rack up by a sports agent following her US Open victory.
Raducanu was outclassed by a peak Jelena Ostapenko in the first round of the Stuttgart WTA 500 as she lost 6-2 6-1 in just 58 minutes. The 2017 French Open champion produced a performance not many could come up against as the 20-year-old struggled to hold serve.
And the defeat will have consequences for the British No 1, who will lose 100 of her 839 ranking points on Monday with 120 more to defend at the upcoming Madrid Open. If she suffers another first-round exit in Spain, Raducanu looks set to tumble outside of the world’s top 100.
It’s a stark contrast to the predictions that were made about the Bromley local when she won the 2021 US Open. Raducanu made history when she became the first qualifier ever to lift a Grand Slam trophy while playing just her fourth professional tournament.

Ranked down at No 150 at the time, an 18-year-old Raducanu won ten successive matches without dropping a set to win the title and become an overnight sensation. She quickly signed lucrative brand deals with the likes of Dior, Tiffany & Co., HSBC, British Airways, Porsche, Evian and Vodafone.
At the time, a leading sports agent also claimed that the Brit could work her way up to a net worth of £100m, telling Mail Online: “She can easily earn £100 million or more. She appeals to a broad crowd and is so young she can only get better. The offers have already been pouring in. She’s the biggest thing in sports right now. The sky’s the limit.”
While Raducanu continues to be a charismatic brand ambassador who is understandably still finding her feet on the professional tennis tour, the threat of dropping outside of the top 100 shows just how tumultuous the 19 months since her US Open victory have been.

There have been some highs – a semi-final appearance in Seoul, back-to-back wins over Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka in Cincinnati, and a career-high ranking peak of world No 10. But for the most part, physical setbacks and early losses have been recurring themes.
Raducanu has continued to put in the hard work, hiring Andy Murray’s former fitness trainer Jez Green over the off-season and even arriving in Stuttgart early to get some practice in with the likes of third seed Ons Jabeur. But it hasn’t translated into her results this season, with her best showing coming in Indian Wells where she reached the last-16.
The 20-year-old has already proven that she can reach the pinnacle of the sport with little experience under her belt. But for now, the lofty predictions made in the immediate aftermath of her US Open win seem a long way away as she continues to battle setbacks.
