Piers Morgan has once again taken to social media to slam Novak Djokovic over the ongoing Australian Open saga. And the TV personality has even gone as far as to compare him with under-fire Prime Minister Boris Johnson, claiming the pair are equals with regards to coming up with ‘bulls***’.
In a statement released in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Djokovic admitted that he knowingly broke coronavirus rules after testing positive last month when he attended an interview with French publication L’Equipe.
He also blamed his recent visa mix-up on a mistake from his agent, saying: “On the issue of my travel declaration, this was submitted by my support team on my behalf – as I told immigration officials on my arrival – and my agent sincerely apologises for the administrative mistake in ticking the incorrect box about my previous travel before coming to Australia.”
The Djokovic saga comes at the same time as Johnson is facing calls to resign after it was found that he attended a party at Downing Street last year while the law stated it was not permitted to meet people outside your household.
Morgan is clearly furious with both high-profile figures, and first took aim at Djokovic following the release of his statement.
The former Good Morning Britain presenter tweeted: “So, you lied on Australian immigration forms (and have now chucked some poor aide under a double-decker for it), brazenly broke Serbian covid rules, and deliberately endangered other people’s health. Yet you have the gall to moan about ‘misinformation’?”
He then followed this up with another tweet of a picture of Djokovic and Johnson together, adding: “Anyone for bulls***?”
Djokovic’s statement certainly does not appear to have done much to play down the furore surrounding his situation.
And two Australian TV presenters were caught off-air giving their frank views on the Serb as they discussed the controversy.
Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor did not mince their words as Ms Maddern was first heard saying: “Whatever way you look at it, Novak Djokovic is a lying, sneaky, a***hole.
“Like, whatever way you look at it. It’s unfortunate that everybody else stuffed up around – to go out when you know you’re Covid positive.
“Well, I don’t think he was. I think that form is true.”
Mr Amor added: “He’s an a***hole. I think…you’ve got bulls**t f****ng excuses, and then fell over his own f****ng lies.
“It’s just what happens. I think he’s going to get away with it. I think most fair-minded people would say he’s an a***hole.
“Did they do the right thing by him? They f***ed it up. That’s the problem.”
