Novak Djokovic, the world No. 1 has had a brilliant run at Wimbledon this year. The Serbian player hasn’t lost a singles match at Wimbledon since 2016. He is now set to take on Matteo Berrettini this afternoon at 2pm on Centre Court. But, who will be supporting the Serbian tennis star?
Novak Djokovic has had an incredible year, the Serb is trying to win his sixth Wimbledon title
Djokovic won the French Open and is trying to secure the Men’s Wimbledon Singles title this afternoon in a bid to win all four grand slams and the Olympics in one year.
Throughout much of his career, Djokovic has had his wife, Jelena Djokovic, by his side.
The couple has been married for seven years and these high-school sweethearts have been together for over 16 years now.
Who is Jelena Djokovic?
Djokovic met his future wife, Jelena Ristic, at high school.
The couple first met and began dating in 2005 as they both attended the same school.
The pair announced they were engaged in September 2013.
They were married the following year when the couple were pregnant with their first child.
Their son Stefan was born in October 2014 and the couple had another child, a daughter Tara three years later.
Jelena is the director of their charity, the Novak Djokovic Foundation.
The charity is trying to improve Serbia’s education system to provide Serbian school children with access to better education.
The pair appear to have had their ups and downs, as Jelena commented on their early courtship to Hello Magazine: “Us getting together was like science fiction almost.”
She added: “I was a student barely getting by, and he was a very young tennis player who also had no money to spare on expensive trips.
“Airplanes were, at the time, something utterly out of our reach.”
As Djokovic travelled around a lot in his early career trying to crack into the big leagues, the couples long-distance relationship suffered.
Jelena, who was holding down a demanding job at an oil company, told Hello: “At a certain point, Novak told me: ‘Darling, we cannot go on like this.”
She added: “I was confined to the office almost at all times.
“It wouldn’t have been possible for our relationship to thrive if I had stayed there.
“We contrived and devised these plans how to meet, how to make our relationship work,”
In the end, their efforts to ensure their relationship lasted seem to have paid off, and the couple now appears to be happily married, living in Monte Carlo with their two children.
