Novak Djokovic told when to retire as Rafael Nadal set to quit tennis
Novak Djokovic says he will 'keep going' after US Open win
Novak Djokovic has been told by tennis fans when to walk away from his beloved sport. The 36-year-old continues to defy his age having won three Grand Slams this year, losing just the Wimbledon final to Carlos Alcaraz. However, questions still remain about his potential retirement from the sport.
Djokovic’s parents have already had their say over his future, with him soon potentially joining the other members of the ‘Big Three’ into the sunset after Roger Federer retired following the 2022 Laver Cup in an emotional farewell – while Rafa Nadal has already suggested next year will be his last.
Both Federer and Nadal had been struggling with injuries late on in their career, but Djokovic has remained healthy for each of the Grand Slams this year. However, supporters have called on the 24-time Major winner to hang up his racket in the relatively near feature.
After 12,850 Express Sport readers were asked whether Djokovic should play past the age of 41, which is when Federer retired, a majority of 62 per cent (7,967 votes) insisted that he should retire before then, which would leave Djokovic just four years remaining should he heed that advice.

He said: “Occasionally asking myself, why do I need this still at this stage after all I have done, you know? How long do I want to keep going? I do have these questions in my head, of course.
“Knowing that I play at such a high level still and I win the biggest tournaments in this sport, yeah, I don’t want to get rid of this sport or I don’t want to leave this sport if I’m still at the top.”
After being just one match away from completing a remarkable Calender Slam, it appears unlikely that Djokovic has plans anytime soon of quitting, having seemingly enjoyed the recent rivalries with younger players on the tour looking to dethrone him such as Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
