Nick Kyrgios was unhappy with the pace of the Wimbledon grass during his first round match against Ugo Humbert on Court One at SW19 on Tuesday night.
Kyrgios was brilliant on his serve in the first set but Frenchman Umbert recovered in the second and third, breaking the Aussie in both to take the lead.
And the 26-year-old’s frustrations were there for all to see as he slipped to 0-3 in set three.
Trailing 6-4, 4-6, 0-3, the cameras cut in on the Australian sat down at a changeover and picked up him complaining that the grass court no longer felt like a grass court.
“Guys for you watching at home, it should be fast in here. It’s turf. It should be fast,” a visibly-annoyed Kyrgios said.

“That’s grass court tennis. They’ve made it slow. This isn’t grass anymore. This is slow. It’s a joke.
“Stop cutting it so f***ing short man. It’s so short isn’t it? Start watering it too. Make it a grass court again.
“Make it a grass court again will you please? Thanks. This isn’t grass anymore bruv.”
Kyrgios and Humbert were playing out a rematch of their five-set Australian Open thriller which the former edged in front of his home fans.
This is Kyrgios’ first match outside of his home country since losing to the same opponent at Acapulco back in February 2020.
Then the defending champion in Mexico, the 26-year-old was was booed off court in his first round match after suffering an injury.
Kyrgios headed into the match against Humbert with a 7-2 record against left-handed players at Grand Slams, only losing to Rafael Nadal.
He said pre-tournament: “Honestly I’ve just reached a really nice level of freedom, like nothing fazes me anymore.
“I definitely feel that I could beat 50 per cent of the draw on grass without much preparation but Ugo has been playing some incredible tennis, obviously coming off that title in Halle.
“He’s been playing exceptionally well and I’m not surprised at all to be honest.”
