Nick Kyrgios went from villain to hero in a matter of seconds for one young Australian Open fan on Tuesday afternoon.

Kyrgios and doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis clinched a three-set victory, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, over Tim Putz and Michael Venus to reach the semi-finals.

Once again the Aussie pair put on an entertaining show for their adoring fans at Melbourne Park but one young boy was left in tears only three games into the match.

Following a let call from a Kokkinakis serve, Kyrgios blasted the ball into the crowd as it came back from the return and unfortunately his wayward shot struck a young boy.

The child could be seen crying while being comforted by his mother, as a guilty-looking Kyrgios looked over to see what had happened.

Realising the boy was upset, Kyrgios ran over to his bag, grabbed a racket and handed it up to the crowd to make sure the boy was gifted a unique present.

Tears of sadness soon turned into tears of joy, while the crowd rose to its collective feet in recognition of the 26-year-old’s heartfelt gesture.

The youngster will have also enjoyed being part of another brilliant atmosphere with the Aussie crowd cheering every point won by their countrymen who are revelling in the moment.

‘As long as I’m playing this sport and playing in Australia, you sure will have a show,’ Kyrgios said.

‘Unreal scenes. I’m not finished. I want to win this thing.’

‘When we walk through that tunnel, there’s no feeling like it,’ Kokkinakis added.

‘We don’t want anything else. This is perfect – the rowdier the better. Keep rustling some feathers, guys.’

The wild cards will meet Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the last four after the third seeds overcame John Peers and Filip Polasek 7-6(5), 6-4 in one hour and 49 minutes.
