Nick Kyrgios charged with assaulting former girlfriend
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios will appear in a Canberra court next month after being charged with one count of common assault related to an alleged incident with ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari.
“ACT Policing can confirm a 27-year-old Watson man is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on August 2 in relation to one charge of common assault following an incident in December 2021,” ACT Police said in a statement on Tuesday night.

The announcement was made on the eve of his Wimbledon quarter-final showdown against Chilean world No.43 Cristian Garin. The Herald has been told Kyrgios was on the practice courts at Wimbledon on Tuesday morning London-time when news of the charge surfaced.
His team is considering releasing a statement before he fronts the press after Wednesday’s match against Garin.
Kyrgios’ barrister, Jason Moffett of Key Chambers, told The Canberra Times that he had been briefed on the matter.
“It’s in the context of a domestic relationship,” Moffett told the newspaper.
“The nature of the allegation is serious, and Mr Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously.
“Given the matter is before the court … he doesn’t have a comment at this stage, but in the fullness of time we’ll issue a media release.”
Kyrgios has been in strong form over the first week of Wimbledon and is one win away from a likely semi-final showdown against Rafael Nadal.
The allegations revolve around his former partner Passari, who last December publicly accused him of being unfaithful during their relationship
