'Low IQ' – Medvedev slams Australian Open fans after frosty Courier interview
Daniil Medvedev sensationally hit out at Australian Open fans who booed him througout his second round win over Nick Kyrgios, insisting the jeerers have a ‘low IQ.’
The world No.2 overcame the home favourite 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 4-6 6-2 to reach the next round but the match was not short of drama.
A raucous crowd were unsurprisingly on the Aussie’s side throughout the match but could be heard booing Medvedev during some of his serves which put him off his game.
Tennis legend Jim Courier interviewed him post match as some fans continued to jeer him but the No.1 seed couldn’t hear his questions over the noise.
‘I came to win this match and I am happy that I managed to do it. That’s the only choice when you are booed between first and second serves,’ he said.
While the 25-year-old believed the noises were boos, Courier attempted to explain that most supporters were making a ‘Siuu’ noise which first started being associated with Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal celebration.
