Iga Swiatek ‘sad’ after Netflix ignore star’s pleas as Pole ‘opts out’ of series
Iga Swiatek admitted that she wasn’t happy with the final edit of her episode in Netflix’s tennis documentary series. The world No 1 featured in part two of Break Point which was released ahead of Wimbledon. And she reportedly won’t be returning for season two after airing her grievances over elements that were left out of the first season.
Swiatek was one of several tennis stars who featured in Netflix’s Drive To Survive-style tennis series filmed over the course of the 2022 season, with one episode chronicling her US Open title victory. But she has now revealed that camera crews were with her at various other points throughout the year, including at her charity exhibition match to raise funds for Ukraine, with all of the footage being left out.
“I think it’s great that we have something like that in tennis,” she said of Break Point during this week’s Cincinnati Open. “On the other hand, from our perspective when we watch the show, we know sometimes a little bit more and we know that this is the show also for people who don’t know a lot about tennis.”
While the four-time Grand Slam champion said she understood why Netflix picked the subject matter that they did, she was still saddened to see her charity match left out after inviting the cameras into her private life. Swiatek continued: “I totally get why they are doing stuff like that, but there was some stuff that I wanted to be included – for example, the exhibition in Krakow – but it wasn’t.

“So it was kind of sad for me. But overall, yeah, it was a nice experience and I learned a lot about myself.” Swiatek staged the ‘Iga Swiatek and friends for Ukraine’ event in Krakow last July with special appearances from retired star Agnieska Radwanska and from Elina Svitolina, who was pregnant at the time. The event raised £422,000 for relief efforts in the nation in the midst of the war.
The 22-year-old also admitted that she wasn’t the type of person to let cameras into her home though she tried to give an insight into her life when they filmed in Krakow. “Honestly I wasn’t one of these players that agreed to everything, because I didn’t want the crew to kind of be, I don’t know, at my house or shooting with my family a lot,” she explained.
“But I showed a little bit of my private life. We showed few things with my sister. But I guess it was pretty tight, because it’s hard to have a normal conversation with your sibling in front of the cameras, you know? That’s why I also thought that it’s kind of maybe I’m not ready for things like this yet.”

It’s another element that was left out of Swiatek’s one episode, alongside her charity match. “But they were in Krakow, and I think the atmosphere there was so great that it would be worth it to show it and also, the other side of the kind of involvement that some players have with helping Ukrainians and Ukraine. So, yeah, it’s shame that they didn’t show it, but maybe it’s better to ask them why. Maybe didn’t fit the episode or the storyline,” she concluded.
And it appears that the world No 1 won’t be back for season two after letting the cameras in. According to Tennis.com, Swiatek has opted not to continue being followed by Netflix while some of her rivals have been seen with crews in tow.
