Holger Rune reignites Stan Wawrinka row after being backed by Nick Kyrgios
Murray backed for strong Wimbledon showing by Henman
Wimbledon star Holger Rune has reignited his row with Stan Wawrinka after claiming some players get a “little unbalanced” when they lose. Rune has clashed with the three-time Grand Slam champion on multiple occasions but has previously been backed by last year’s Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios.
Rune and Wawrinka first came to blows at the Paris Masters last November after the 20-year-old had defeated his more experienced rival following a final set tiebreak. As the duo were shaking hands at the net, Wawrinka said: “My advice to you is that you stop acting like a baby on court.”
Earlier this year, the players clashed once again at Indian Wells in California after Wawrinka had come out on top on that occasion. After the match, Rune asked the Swiss ace if he “had nothing to say now” and Wawrinka hit back: “What do you want me to say?”
Kyrgios, who has also argued with Wawrinka in the past, soon took to Instagram to back Rune as he posted: “Hahahaha yeah all good when you win… typical. Holger Rune with you my brother.”

Rune’s fractured relationship with Wawrinka doesn’t show any signs of improving. And after being asked about the situation by The Times, the Dane said: “I was surprised. Some players when they lose, they get a little unbalanced. I guess that’s what happened.”
And the youngster added: “I think it’s very important that the fire, the belief, everything you have inside, you kind of relieve that out on the court. I think to be able to be the best version of yourself, you have to be fully yourself.

“If you try to hide it or something like that, you’re never going to feel 100 per cent comfortable. It’s very important to be yourself at all times because this is where you can perform best. This is where your body knows your brain and your brain knows your body the best.”
Rune was knocked out of Wimbledon by Marcos Giron at the first round stage last year but is seeded No 6 for this year’s tournament after reaching the quarter-finals at the French Open in June. He is set to get his tournament underway on Tuesday when he takes on British wildcard George Loffhagen.
Meanwhile Wawrinka, who won the Australian Open in 2014, the French Open in 2015 and the US Open in 2016, will face Finnish opponent Emil Ruusuvuori in Wimbledon’s opening round on Monday.
