Dan Evans has given his verdict on the new Drive To Survive-style tennis Netflix documentary being released next month, and claimed it would be “acted”. The British No 2 made a swipe at Stefanos Tsitsipas as he claimed that the series would show characters people weren’t interested in like the “tennis dad”, indicating Tsitsipas’ father Apostolos.
Tennis is officially getting the Netflix treatment, as the first part of ‘Break Point’ – the highly anticipated Drive To Survive-style documentary series following the sport – will be released on January 13, following a series of players including Tsitsipas, Taylor Fritz and Paula Badosa. The documentary has a relatively young cast with the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic not personally taking part, and Evans has now claimed the cast list was “predictable”.
“You could have hand-picked who they were going to choose,” the world No 27 told reporters in Scotland ahead of this week’s Battle of the Brits tournament. “It is so predictable.” The second-ranked Brit also discussed the “tennis dad” character as he made reference to Tsitsipas’ dad Apostolos, who coaches him.
Evans continued: “You want to hear what Rafa has got to say when he had to pull out of Wimbledon. We’ll have to listen to Tsitsipas and a tennis dad [a reference to Tsitsipas’s coach and father Apostolos].”

The 32-year-old said he wouldn’t be watching when the first half of the series – documenting from last year’s Australian Open to the French Open – was released next month, admitting it wasn’t his type of think. “There’s always going to be a tennis dad in there, isn’t there?” he added.
“It’s not for me. It’s all acted, you can see it. Come on.” His words come after the first teaser for the series was released last week. As well as Tsitsipas, Fritz and Badosa, the series will also follow Felix Auger-Aliassime, Matteo Berrettini, Ons Jabeur, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Nick Kyrgios, Casper Ruud, Aryna Sabalenka, Maria Sakkari, Sloane Stephens, Iga Swiatek, Frances Tiafoe and Ajla Tomljanovic.

Meanwhile, Nadal’s uncle Toni and Maria Sharapova will be among those interviewed for the series. Speaking about its upcoming release, world No 6 Auger-Aliassime said: “I think it’s going to make a great show, and I think we gave them some good content.”
“For me the main goal is that it can help tennis. It can help tennis overall. That would be amazing if we could see a rise in the number of fans and attention for our sport by airing this series.”
