Carlos Alcaraz puts on a show as Medvedev warns ‘one player is going to die’
Novak Djokovic on course for 24th grand slam
The final four of the singles section of the US Open have been filled after the quarter-finals came to a conclusion following Carlos Alcaraz’s straight-sets victory over Alexander Zverev on Wednesday. The reigning Wimbledon champion won 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to set up a semi-final with Daniil Medvedev.
Alcaraz has reached three Grand Slam semi-finals in the same year, making him the youngest man to do so since Novak Djokovic in 2007, who incidentally could be waiting for him in the final if the young Spanish star overcomes Medvedev – who defeated Andrey Rublev in the previous round on Wednesday.
Djokovic faces another home favourite in Ben Shelton before setting up a potential rematch of the Wimbledon final in New York with Alcaraz, with the young American hoping to shock the world by claiming a big upset over the 23-time Major winner.
Marketa Vondrousouva will not get the chance to win back-to-back Grand Slams after the SW19 victor was defeated by American Madison Keys on Thursday, who will face Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-final. They will face the winner of Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova in the other tie.

JUST IN Alcaraz warns Djokovic what to expect in US Open final with brutal message[INTERVIEW]
Osaka confirms return
Naomi Osaka has confirmed that she will be playing at next year’s Australia Open as she opened up on her return to tennis.
The four-time Grand Slam champion gave birth to her daughter Shai in July and has been taking some time away from the sport to focus on her family.
But Osaka admitted that she is already planning her return and “it’s definitely way more tournaments than I used to play.”
She also confirmed to ESPN that she would be competing in the first Major of 2024.
Medvedev chilling warning
Daniil Medvedev insisted that “one player is going to die” after playing in extreme heat as he reached the semi-finals of the US Open.
The Russian took two medical time outs and was forced to strip down to just his shorts on the court as a result of the conditions.
He was overheard saying “one player is going to die” as a result of the humidity and insisted that the conditions were “brutal” after his win over Alexander Zverev.
Alcaraz shows off skills
Carlos Alcaraz was having plenty of fun in his straight-sets victory over Alexander Zverev to reach the semi-finals of the US Open on Wednesday.
The reigning Wimbledon champion is defending his crown in New York but made sure to give the crowd something to cheer for.
Between points, the Spanish star began twirling his racket around in a mesmerising fashion to prompt cheers and bewilderment at the US Open.
