Carlos Alcaraz predicted Novak Djokovic US Open comeback before he went to sleep
Carlos Alcaraz confessed that he knew Novak Djokovic would win his third-round match at the US Open despite going two sets down to Laslo Djere. The world No 2 found himself in some trouble on Friday night but stormed back to win in five sets. And Alcaraz admitted that he stopped watching the match when Djokovic trailed 4-6 4-6, going to sleep confident in his prediction that the Serb could come back.
Djokovic completed just his second comeback from two sets down at the US Open on Friday as he took on countryman Djere. The 32nd seed raced into the lead but the 36-year-old showed why he was a champion, dropping just five more games in the rest of the match to win 4-6 4-6 6-1 6-1 6-3.
It took three hours and 45 minutes for the second seed to pull off a great escape against Djere. But Djokovic’s current biggest rival said he always knew that he would get the win. “Well, I watched the first two sets, then I had to go to sleep,” the two-time Major winner revealed when asked if he’d seen Djokovic’s match.
While Alcaraz wasn’t able to see out the result of the match, he knew exactly what was going to happen. “But, you know, when I go to bed, I was thinking Novak is going to come back, that’s for sure,” he added.

Just in US Open star reacts after making Grand Slam history in first openly gay match[LATEST]
The 20-year-old was full of praise for his rival, sharing his admiration for Djokovic’s ability to keep doing “crazy” things at the latter stages of his career. Alcaraz continued: “He shows once again that he’s one of the best in history.
“Just he has come back from two sets to love down, I think I saw, like, six, seven times. So it’s something crazy. 36 years old and doing the same things as when he was 20, it’s incredible. We have to give credit about that, and it’s something I admire.”
Alcaraz and Djokovic are still on course to meet in the final of the US Open in eight days’ time. The pair have met in the last three tournaments that they have both played – the French Open, Wimbledon and the Cincinnati Open.

It was the Serb who won their clash in Paris when Alcaraz started cramping. The world No 1 then became the first man in 10 years to beat Djokovic on Centre Court as he lifted the Wimbledon trophy for his second Grand Slam crown.
Djokovic then got revenge in the Cincinnati final, coming from a set down and saving a championship point to beat Alcaraz in a three-set thriller and be crowned the champion. Going back to their first meeting at the 2022 Madrid Open, the pair are all square at 2-2 in their head-to-head. But that could change next Sunday if both men make it to the final of the US Open for what would be their fifth meeting.
