‘Call police’: Aussie held back over non-call
Australian tennis player Jordan Thompson had to be held back by the chair umpire after a non-call had the Aussie fuming.
The wild incident occurred during Thompson’s opening round singles match against Sweden’s Elias Ymer at the Citi Open.
Thompson, ranked 62nd in the world, went down to Ymer 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, but the big moment of the match happened right at the end of the game.
The 27-year-old hit a drop volley that forced Ymer to sprint quickly to reach the ball and keep the point alive.

The Swede manages to get the ball over the net, to which Thompson lazily hits the ball into the net, having assumed it had bounced twice before Ymer had reached it.
The chair umpire didn’t call it as such, and gifted the point to Ymer.
An irate Thompson fumed at the decision, and Ymer was left to maintain his innocence, claiming he “didn’t see it”.

Ymer wrapped up the match shortly after the incident, which led to more bizarre scenes.
As the two exchanged a fist-bump at the end of the game, it was Ymer who seemed more upset.
He repeatedly pointed to the official and said “he’s umpire”, as Thompson is held back by the umpire himself.

Eventually the Swede walked back to his chair to end the fracas.
Ymer will face another Australian in the second round at the Citi Open, as 11th seed John Millman awaits him.
