Ashleigh Barty sailed through to the quarter finals of Wimbledon with a strong performance against Barbora Krejcikova, setting up a potential match against Britain’s Emma Raducanu. The women’s draw has been blown wide open heading into the second week with just three of the top-10 players still in the draw.

Barty headed into the tournament as the strong favourite, although she had never got past the fourth round at Wimbledon before.

Standing in her way was Krejcikova , who came into Wimbledon on fine form having won the 2021 French Open.

But the Australian tennis star was too much for the No 14 seed despite a blip at the start.

Krejcikova broke Barty’s serve early in the first set and consolodiated to take a 3-1 lead.

Barty was struggling to find her rhythm and was almost a double break down at 4-2, only to hold on and immediately break back in the following game.

Momentum was on the 2019 French Open champion’s side now and she eventually took a one-set lead.

Krejcikova was pushing Barty hard in the second set to try and force a decider with both players struggling on their serve.

But Barty powered through when it mattered most, taking just one match-point opportunity to seal the victory.
