Andy Roddick has stressed the importance of consistency for British sensation Emma Raducanu in 2022. The Brit wrapped up her phenomenal season with a disappointing opening round loss at the Linz Open earlier this month.
But her tough end to the season certainly has not overshadowed her incredible success story this year.
After an impressive run to the fourth round of Wimbledon in the summer in what was her first Grand Slam at senior level, she stunned the world by capturing the US Open in September without dropping a set – having been made to come through qualifying.
As a result she became the new British number one and is now ranked inside the world’s top 20.
After a truly remarkable adventure, all eyes will focus on her again next season as the teen will embark on her first full campaign on the WTA Tour.
And now former American tennis star Andy Roddick has had his say on what he would like to see from the Bromley local as she aims to build on her remarkable success.
“What she did at the US open was unbelievable, but it was largely without expectation of ‘hey, if you win this final it’s bad for you'”, the former world number one told Tennis Channel.

“It was all gravy from the third round on for Emma Raducanu, take nothing away from her, but is a different type of pressure set now.
“What I want to see is those consistent weeks where she is winning three matches, or winning four matches every week, that would be the next benchmark if I’m on her team.
“Let’s get this consistency dialed in, so that our baseline is top 20 in the world and our upper echelon is what you did at the US Open which we all saw and were amazed by.”
Last week, Raducanu took to Instagram to reflect on her breakout season and thanked her team and the fans for the incredible support.
She penned: “Wowww… that was some year, 2 pics to sum up my 2021 season. I want to say thank you & that I am extremely grateful for your generous support.
“I’ve learnt many things at a fast pace on this incredible journey but all I can say is that I am very excited and motivated for my next steps.
“I feel I can put in great work together with my team, with patience I believe we’ll get there.
“Huge thanks and big appreciation to my team & people who have supported me! This wouldn’t have been possible without you. Love Emma.”
The tennis superstar will begin next season with Torben Beltz as her new coach after a lengthy search for Andrew Richardson’s replacement.
The German prevously worked with former World No 1 and Raducanu’s idol Angelique Kerber.
“You guys cracked it. It’s obviously a great privilege to be working with such an experienced coach,” the 19-year-old said when announcing the latest addition to her team after ending her season.
“I’m definitely very excited to work with him throughout the pre-season and into next year so things are looking up and it’s a very, very positive feeling, very excited about all the work that is to come.”
