Andy Murray received a hilariously fitting gift from a fan in Indian Wells, after being reunited with his missing tennis shoes. The former world No 1 took to Instagram ahead of the tournament to appeal for help after leaving his shoes, with his wedding ring tied to them, underneath his car to dry before finding they had disappeared the following day. He then shared a positive update, revealing he was reunited with his ‘stinky’ shoes.
Murray is currently playing in Indian Wells for the first time since 2017, though the early focus on his comeback in the Californian desert has instead related to off-court matters.
The three-time Grand Slam champion took to his Instagram account before his opening match to ask for help after leaving his tennis shoes under the car overnight to “air them out” following a hot day in Indian Wells, and returning the morning after to find them gone.
It was bad news for Murray, who was forced to buy a new pair of shoes at a local tennis shop and worse, had left his wedding ring tied to the shoelaces.
Luckily the shoes were returned to him after a member of staff at his hotel found them, with the ring still on the laces, and his crisis was averted in time for him to secure a stunning 6-3 6-2 victory over world No 51 Adrian Mannarino.

The current world No 121 has now received a fitting present from a fan in the Californian desert, to make sure he never finds himself in the same situation again.
His mum, Judy Murray, took to Twitter to share the hilarious but appropriate gift, writing: “Thoughtful gift from a fan. Nice one @thaiguy84.”
The Scottish tennis coach attached a photo showing her son smiling while holding a pair of Odor Eaters insoles, ensuring he no longer needed to leave his tennis shoes outside to get rid of the smell.
Murray was delighted to be reunited with his shoes, telling his Instagram followers on Thursday (October 7): “I had to make a few calls today to and chat to the security at the hotel and a little update for everyone, would you believe it, they still absolutely stink but the shoes are back, the wedding ring is back, and I’m back in the good books.”

The Brit later explained why he had been so particular about his choice of shoes.
“The shoes that I have now, like, I’m trying to use a bit sparingly because they don’t make them anymore,” he told reporters following his first-round win over Mannarino.
“These are the ones I played with for a long time. I’m also a bit mindful of that. I don’t want to change if I don’t have to.
“I’ve had enough sort of issues with my body to worry about having to change shoes and stuff again. Have to be a bit mindful of that because I don’t have an infinite number of them either.”
He was also sceptical of how he came to be reunited with the shoes after asking hotel staff to find them multiple times, adding: “So basically the day after or the day that we realised they were let’s say misplaced or sort of someone had moved them.
“I went and I spoke to the lost and found a couple times at the hotel that day. They said they’d found nothing. I spoke to security. They said they found nothing.
“I was like, Well, they’re gone. I was going to file a police report to try to get them back or to increase my chance of getting them back. Anyway, I went and spoke to the hotel, explained to them that was what I was going to do.”
After explaining that the staff members took down Murray’s details, including details of the shoes, ring, and where exactly his car was parked, he said: “Yeah, about an hour later they turned up. One of the employees at the hotel found them in their lost and found.
“I was told that someone from the hotel obviously picked it up. And then they just didn’t see it in the lost property when I’d asked for it. That’s what they told me.
“But I don’t know. I’ve not looked at the security footage with my own eyes to see exactly what happened with it.
“ But yeah, that was what I was told. But obviously I’d asked like four times the lost and found and the security and they didn’t have it. So thankfully, that turned up at the end.”
