Zlatan Ibrahimovic performs savage uppercut as Roman centurion for new movie

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has landed a blockbuster film role alongside Oscar winner Marion Cotillard as he nears the end of his football career – appearing in the upcoming Asterix & Obelix reboot.

The 40-year-old AC Milan striker revealed his involvement in the project last year and shared the first teaser trailer onto his social media channels on Sunday.

The iconic former PSG and Manchester United forward was brought onto the project by director and Asterix actor Guillaume Canet – and his character looks to channel his fiery persona.

Appearing for six seconds of the 90-second trailer, Zlatan is dressed in centurion attire, complete with silver armour and a long red cape.

Flicking up his helmet as if it was a football, Zlatan, as Caius Antivirus, uppercuts a rival soldier while surrounded by flames.

In a second shot, the Sweden international is seen flexing his muscles to an adoring battalion of soldiers while Asterix & Obelix (played by Gilles Lellouche) look at one another in bemusement.

Also starring in the film are Jonathan Cohen and Vincent Cassel. Cleopatra actress Cotillard won an Oscar for her portrayal of French singer Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose back in 2007.

Ibrahimovic is currently sidelined at the San Siro having played parts of last season with an ACL in his knee as his eight goals helped Stefano Pioli's side to a first Serie A title since 2010/11 – when he scored 14 goals.

Due to his desire to remain at the club, Ibrahimovic reportedly agreed to a wage reduction when signing a one-year contract extension in the summer.

Responding to the announcement on Instagram, Ibrahimovic wrote: "The never-ending Zlatan #ReadyToLeaveAMark."

With Pioli saying after his surgery: “He couldn’t wait to go under the knife, as he suffered for all these months. Zlatan helped me to grow, he gave the whole team that mentality and belief. He is the most intelligent and likeable person I know in football.

"Ibrahimovic had the operation because he wanted to continue playing and he still has more to give."
