‘The state of the pitch hurt us’: Xavi points blame at the playing surface after Barcelona are held to frustrating stalemate by Getafe in LaLiga
- Xavi’s side were held to stalemate and made it three games without scoring
- They dominated possession and made several chances but couldn’t score
- Sergi Roberto suffered what could be a season-ending injury for Barcelona
- The result sees Barcelona go 11 points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga
Barcelona manager Xavi hit out at the state of the pitch after his side were held to a 0-0 draw by Getafe in LaLiga on Sunday.
The Catalan club made it three games without scoring for the first time since 2008 as they played out a dull 0-0 draw with the Madrid minnows.
There are only nine games left in La Liga and the result still means Barca have a significant lead of 11 points.
Speaking after the match, Xavi took aim at the playing surface at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, claiming it prevented his side from playing their usual game.
‘The state of the pitch hurt us,’ he said. Yesterday, we trained with the dry field. It was very difficult to play on that, and it’s bad for the show.

‘The ball gets stuck, it’s bad even for Getafe. It is essential that it is in good condition. It’s no excuse and we now have to recover.’
The result wasn’t the only disappointment for the visitors as Sergi Roberto went off early in the match.
There are fears his season could be over and Xavi confirmed that the midfielder had suffered a hamstring injury.
‘Sergi has noticed something in the hamstring. Let’s see tomorrow. Hopefully it is only a short layoff, whether or not there is an injury.’
