Wrexham striker Paul Mullin brutally mocks Ben Foster over his goalkeeping
Wrexham hero Paul Mullin brutally mocked Ben Foster to his face over his goalkeeping skills.
Foster, 40, hung up his gloves for the second time in his career just weeks into the current 2023/24 campaign. The experienced shot-stopper initially came out of retirement to successfully help Wrexham secure promotion to the EFL towards the end of last season, but found the demands of League Two a step too far at his ripe age.
Many at the Racecourse Ground will nevertheless look back on Foster’s brief stint fondly, with his penalty save in the last seconds against Notts County being one of the highlights of their season. But that didn’t stop former team-mate and current Wrexham sensation Mullin from trolling the ex-Watford man.

Speaking at an event celebrating the launch of his own new autobiography titled ‘My Wrexham Story’, Mullin sat opposite Foster to discuss his career. And the striker didn’t hold back in jokingly criticising the latter’s performance during a defeat to FC Halifax Town last season – where Foster conceded three goals.
"We did okay at Halifax considering we played without a goalie!" Mullin said. Foster was able to see the funny side despite the brutal jibe.

Foster’s form came under more serious scrutiny at the beginning of the season as he failed to manage a clean sheet in any of his first four appearances. After being trolled online, the goalkeeper candidly explained his decision to retire, admitting he was conceding goals he couldn’t explain.
He wrote on Instagram: "Hello Wrexham fans, It's Ben Foster here. I just want you to know that I've decided to retire from professional football… yeah, I know, again.
“I think the time is right, I feel sometimes you've got to be brutally honest with yourself, and just admit you can't do what you used to do! It's a shame, but being 40-years-old, it's expected as well."
Wrexham have since recovered from their shaky start and picked up some impressive form. Phil Parkinson's side are currently fourth in League Two – just two points behind second-placed Mansfield Town.
