Wrexham player not allowed in casinos and nightclubs during trip to Las Vegas
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have explained why one Wrexham player was not allowed on their Las Vegas trip. Wrexham recently secured promotion to the Football League for the first time in 15 years after winning the National League title.
They will be joined in League Two by Notts County, who beat Chesterfield Town in the Playoff final at the weekend. Reynolds and McElhenney will be working hard behind the scenes to get Wrexham prepared for their first season in the EFL for more than a decade.
The most recent bit of news saw the club release their retained list, which saw 11 players leave as free agents. Star striker Paul Mullin has been handed a contract extension that now sees his deal run until 2025. The club also confirmed discussions are being held over the future of veteran goalkeeper Ben Foster.
Before most of the work got underway, the Wrexham players were treated to a luxury four-day trip to Las Vegas. In the celebratory holiday, the roster enjoyed some of the most famous sights in Vegas, including the Bellagio, MGM Grand and the Hakkasan night club.
However, Reynolds and McElhenney have explained how one player could not enjoy everything Vegas has to offer. Defender Max Cleworth was not allowed to go to the casinos and night clubs on the trip.
The 20-year-old is not old enough to drink or gamble in the United States, and so was not able to join the majority of his team-mates on nights out. But McElhenney has said that the youngster was not left alone while on the trip.
Speaking on the Fearless in Devotion podcast, McElhenney said: “I did not gamble with any of the gentlemen. When they went into a casino, mummy and daddy (Rob and his wife, Kaitlin Olsen) took their leave.”
Reynolds responded by saying: “Wasn’t it Max Cleworth who wasn’t old enough to enjoy the best bits of Vegas?” McElhenney then replied: “Yeah sometimes he wasn’t allowed into places and some of the guys would stay with him and they’d find other things to do.”
Finishing the conversation, Reynolds added: “He entered Vegas a boy, and he left a man.”
Wrexham will report back for pre-season training later this summer, with the League Two full schedule being released on Thursday, June 22. The season will begin at the start of August, and will run until May 2024.
