Wrexham handed huge boost as Paul Mullin flies back home after punctured lung
Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has finally flown home after nearly three weeks of being stranded in the United States.
The former League One forward has been marooned across the pond after suffering a punctured lung during the Welsh side’s ill-tempered 3-1 pre-season victory over Manchester United. The 28-year-old had an ugly collision with young United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop, which saw him depart the pitch on a stretcher with an oxygen mask over his face.
Because of the nature of his injury, Mullin was unable to fly back to the UK. Hollywood superstar and Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney offered to put Mullin up in his home while he recovered, but the lethal striker politely declined and made his own arrangements.
He has already missed Wrexham’s first match in the Football League for 15 years – a 5-3 home loss to MK Dons. However, the Red Dragons were given a huge boost as he has finally returned to the UK.

After Wrexham knocked Wigan Athletic out of the League Cup on penalties, manager Phil Parkinson said the striker "hasn't been answering his phone," and joked they were worried they had lost him to California.
In response to the video, Mullin uploaded a picture of himself on a plane alongside the caption: “BRB (be right back) data ran out.”

Wrexham will be relieved to have him back in their team. During last season's victorious campaign, he contributed a whopping 38 goals and three assists in 45 National League appearances for the club.
Mullin also helped himself to eight goals in five FA Cup clashes as the Welsh side came within a whisker of overcoming Sheffield United and booking a 5th round tie against Tottenham Hotspur. Initial estimations believe Mullin could miss between six to eight weeks of football, but they are only mere predictions.

"He will be back with us,” Parkinson confirmed. “When he comes back in the next few days we will be able to assess, see a specialist and see how long he is going to be out for."
Wrexham travel to AFC Wimbledon in their next clash before hosting Walsall in their second home league game of the season.
