Arnold voices concern over the future of the game Down Under
Overnight, Graham Arnold has used what could be his last official pre-match press conference as Socceroos coach to call for an in-depth review into the country’s development structures, outlining his “massive concerns” for the sport at junior level.
Arnold, whose side face Denmark on Thursday morning (2am AEDT) and can reach the World Cup’s knockout phase with a win or draw, said he feared for the future if talented young players aren’t given more professional opportunities and if junior national teams like the Olyroos aren’t better resourced.

Top Qatari official gives estimate for World Cup deaths
Human rights revelations continue to cast a shadow over this World Cup.
Overnight, a top-ranking Qatari official has put the number of worker deaths for the tournament at “between 400 and 500” – a drastically higher number than any other previously offered by Doha.
The comment by Hassan al-Thawadi, the secretary-general of Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, appeared to come off the cuff during an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.
In the interview, portions of which Morgan posted online, the journalist asks al-Thawadi: “What is the honest, realistic total do you think of migrant workers who died from – as a result of work they’re doing for the World Cup in totality?”
“The estimate is around 400, between 400 and 500,” al-Thawadi responds. “I don’t have the exact number. That’s something that’s been discussed.”

Good morning
G’day everyone. It’s Roy Ward here and I’ll be leading the line for our FIFA World Cup live blog for today as we continue the final round of group games and decide who will progress to the knockout round of 16.
To avoid any result tampering, the four teams in each group will play their games simultaneously and early today Group A completed its matches with The Netherlands beating Qatar to progress in top spot while Senegal pipped Ecuador to claim second place.

But our focus will be Group B which sees England take on Wales and USA face Iran – both games will start at 6am AEDT and we will endeavour to cover both of them but with a focus on England and Wales.
Please feel free to leave a comment on the blog at any time and enjoy the day to come.
