From an England perspective all the attention is being directed at stopping Kylian Mbappe in Saturday’s blockbuster World Cup quarter-final with France. 

But Ibrahima Konate, of France and Liverpool, this week pointed to the many weapons around Harry Kane and chief sports writer Martin Samuel suggested that England don’t get the respect at home they duly deserve. 

He cites the win over Senegal came with the usual caveats of it being ‘lucky’ but that any other side beating the champions of Africa would have been a head-turner of a result.
