Emiliano Martinez established himself as an Argentinian hero on Sunday night, helping his side beat France 4-2 on penalties after drawing 3-3 during the 120 minute World Cup final.
However, his morals have come into question. The Aston Villa goalkeeper threw the ball away before Aurelien Tchouameni took his penalty. His mind games clearly worked as the France midfielder fired his shot wide of the post.
Martinez was also criticsed for dancing after he saved Kingsley Coman’s spot kick as many felt he was mocking France. The 30-year-old also found himself in hot water after making a lewd gesture after receiving the Golden Glove award.
The goalkeeper’s behaviour became a topic of conversation between Chris Sutton, Ian Ladyman and Oliver Holt in the latest edition of our World Cup Confidential videocast from Qatar.
