Wolves’ Neves makes decision over Arsenal transfer that will delight Man Utd
Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves has reportedly turned down approaches from Arsenal in favour of a potential move to Manchester United.
Eurosport transfer insider Dean Jones told the Football Terrace podcast that the 24-year-old was ‘not sure’ if a move to the Emirates was ‘right’ for him at this stage of his career.
Neves joined Wolves from Porto in 2017, helping them gain promotion from the Championship in his first year at Molineux.
Since then, he has established himself in the Premier League, making 109 top-flight appearances, scoring 11 and assisting six.
He has also become a regular on the international stage and was part of Portugal's Euro 2020 squad, featuring in one game at the tournament.
Wolves would reportedly allow Neves to leave the club this summer for the right price, with the figure being around £35million.
Jones states Arsenal have ‘definitely’ tried to recruit him but are set to be overlooked amid interest from elsewhere.
He said: “The player’s not sure if that’s the right move for him at this stage. With Manchester United also in view for him, he’d rather wait things out and see whether that will actually come to fruition.”
A move to Old Trafford would see Neves link up in midfield with Portugal teammate, Bruno Fernandes, and could be a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, who’s future is uncertain.
Where will Neves be next season, let us know in the comments section.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have already conducted strong business this summer, with Jadon Sancho confirmed and Raphael Varane close to the line.
The club will be a tempting prospect for Neves, with Champions League football being a major pull.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is looking to overhaul his first team squad, following an eighth place finish last term.
The Gunners are close to completing a deal for Brighton’s Ben White, whilst Granit Xhaka is closing in on a move away from the Emirates.
