Wolves defender Romain Saiss offered a contract extension at Molineux

Wolves offer Romain Saiss a new contract after a stellar season at Molineux as Bruno Lage’s side aim to avoid losing the experienced defender on a free transfer this summer

  • Romain Saiss’ current deal at Wolves is set to expire at the end of June
  • He has had a strong season as Wolves have only conceded 23 league goals
  • This has led to the club offering him a new contract to stay at Molineux

Romain Saiss has been offered a new contract by Wolves with his current deal due to expire in three months.

The centre-back could leave Molineux on a free transfer this summer and has interest across Europe and beyond, but his impressive form under Bruno Lage this season means Wolves are keen to keep the Morocco international, who turns 32 later this month.

He has made 105 appearances in the top flight and played regularly under Lage and his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo.

Saiss’ representatives are aiming for terms that would elevate their client into the top bracket of earners at Wolves, with forward Raul Jimenez and midfielder Joao Moutinho among those earning more than £100,000 per week.

Along with Saiss, Moutinho and defender Marcal are also out of contract ahead of a summer where changes are on the horizon at Wolves.

Boss Bruno Lage is keen to strengthen at the back and in midfield, with Ruben Neves on the radar of Manchester United and Arsenal, while the club may listen to offers for Leander Dendoncker.

Wolves have been rock solid in defence this term, conceding only 23 goals in the league, but they have scored just 28 – including four against Watford on Thursday – and Lage is keen to improve his attack.

Barcelona have an option to buy Adama Traore for £29million at the end of the campaign but president Joan Laporta has hinted the club may not have the finances to do so.
