St Louis City continued to defy the odds on Saturday night, thrashing Real Salt Lake 4-0 on the road to make it five wins from five in their first MLS season.
The league’s newest team came in being tipped to struggle by fans and pundits, but have enjoyed a near-miraculous start, scoring 15 goals in just five matches.
Incredibly, it seems to be getting better each week too, with a 4-0 win in Salt Lake City their most impressive in an already-brilliant season.
After a goalless first half, the new franchise – led by South African head coach Bradley Carnell – started the second half strong, and went ahead through Nicholas Gioacchini two minutes after the restart.
Joao Klauss then continued his brilliant start to the season with goals in the 61st and 66th minute to put St Louis in complete control, before Rasmus Alm added the icing on the cake with 15 minutes left on the clock.

The huge victory takes them five points clear of their nearest rivals in the Western Conference, with a maximum 15 points from their first five matches ever.
They are just the third team in MLS history to achieve the feat, and their +11 goal difference through five matches is the best ever recorded by a new franchise.
Tougher tests are ahead for the new boys, with Minnesota and Seattle Sounders – two in-form Western Conference rivals – to come in their next two games.
For now, though, beginner’s luck appears to be working a treat for the Missouri boys.
