Why Kieran Tierney and Pablo Mari missed Arsenal's clash with Crystal Palace
Kieran Tierney and Pablo Mari missed Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace as a ‘precaution’ due to muscular injuries.
The Gunners welcomed London rivals Palace to the Emirates on Thursday evening, looking to secure their fifth straight win in all competitions.
Mikel Arteta was without defenders Tierney and Mari but both are likely to return on Monday when Arsenal host Newcastle United.
The club confirmed prior to the match that Tierney was absent due to ‘muscle tightness’, while Mari was struggling with a ‘tight calf’.
Scotland international Tierney has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season, while Mari has begun to impress after missing the start of the campaign with an injury.
Ahead of the Crystal Palace match, Arsenal star Hector Bellerin said: ‘We’re feeling really good. It’s great to find some momentum in our games, not just in the league but also in the cup.
‘Loads of great performances, loads of positive so I’m glad we’re turning it around. It’s time for us to keep going, we play at home, our favourite place, so it’s our chance to do it again tonight.’
