- The draw for the Europa League quarter-finals takes place later this month
- Arsenal and Manchester United both feature in the last-16 which starts tonight
- The final will take place on May 31 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary
The Europa League round of 16 gets underway on Thursday evening, with Premier League duo Manchester United and Arsenal battling for a place in the quarter-finals.
Arsenal are in pole position to land a historic Premier League title, but the Europa League resembles another golden opportunity for silverware with Mikel Arteta’s side the overwhelming favourites against last-16 opponents Sporting Lisbon.
Any hopes of a United title-charge were largely crushed following their humiliating 7-0 defeat to Liverpool, but, after beating Barcelona to reach the last-16, they are well placed to challenge for the Europa League trophy.
Erik ten Hag’s side take on Real Betis, while former manager Jose Mourinho is still in the competition, with his Roma side up against Real Sociedad.
But when does the draw for the quarter-finals take place? And when will the ties be played? Sportsmail provides the answers below.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side are expected to beat Sporting Lisbon and reach the quarter-finals
Erik ten Hag will look to bounce back in the Europa League following Man United’s humiliating defeat to Liverpool
When is the Europa League quarter-final draw and how to watch it?
The draw for the quarter-finals of the Europa League will take place on Friday, March 17.
It will get underway at 12pm, for those in the United Kingdom, and will typically take place at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
The draw will be available to stream on UEFA’s official website, while BT Sport will also be televising it live.
Sportsmail will also be covering the draw live, so you can keep up-to-date with us.
How will the draw work? And what about the semi-final and final?
The Europa League quarter-final draw will consist of eight teams, being those who prevailed in the round of 16 ties.
Teams from the same country can, at this stage, now square off, while there are no longer any seeds. It means Arsenal and Man United could be drawn against each other if they both win their last-16 ties.
The Europa League semi-final draw will be made too as the path to the final becomes clear
Meanwhile, those who competed in the group stage together can also be drawn against each other in the quarter-final stage.
The semi-final draw will also be made on March 17, meaning those who have progressed to the quarter-finals will also know their potential route to the final.
A draw will also be made to determine the ‘home’ team for the final, though that is purely for administrative purposes.
