Tottenham reportedly told transfer targets over the summer that they feel there is a chance they can overtake the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool in the short term. Antonio Conte has spoken openly about the project he is spearheading in north London and refused to put a timeframe on the rebuild.
Spurs spent over £150million ahead of the start of the season as they welcomed seven new recruits to their squad. Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison were all signed as the higher powers at Tottenham attempted to provide Conte with a squad capable of pushing up the table and competing for trophies.
And it is not just the former Chelsea boss that believes the club are on-course to mount a title charge in the coming campaigns. According to Lyall Thomas, Spurs told potential recruits that they see ‘an opportunity to usurp the likes of City and Liverpool in the next two/three years’.
Tottenham are anticipating at least one of the aforementioned sides to rebuild during that time – and that could ring true as soon as the end of the season given Liverpool’s disappointment in their opening games of the campaign.

Spurs will be keen to welcome more additions to their squad both in January and at the end of the season, with Conte seemingly keeping tabs on stars in the Serie A. Tottenham have been linked with Nicolo Zaniolo, Victor Osimhen and Lautaro Martinez recently, with an attacking signing high on the priority list.
One player certain to arrive at the start of the 2023/24 campaign is Destiny Udogie, returning from his loan spell at Udinese having been purchased from them over the summer. The left wing-back is impressing in Italy, with two goals in nine appearances, and looks certain to have a major role to play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the future.
Though Udogie certainly won’t be the only arrival as part of Spurs’ process. Speaking about the next steps for his side, Conte said: “I know we need a process to go step by step to become a really, really strong team and to become title contenders. I like to speak about the process because I know and I feel that this club and this team needed our process.
“Not in 10 months or one year and click, ‘you can do it, everything is okay, you are title contenders and better than City, Chelsea, Liverpool, United and Arsenal’. You try to do it but you have to know there is a path. This path is compulsory. You have to go through this if you want to fight for something special and win trophies.”
