Manchester City are said to have privately told Brendan Rodgers that they are interested in making him their next boss when Pep Guardiola’s time at the club comes to an end. The Leicester manager’s stock remains high, despite a difficult start to the new campaign, following the work he has carried out at the King Power Stadium since arriving from Celtic in 2019.
The Foxes were struggling for consistency under Claude Puel but Rodgers needed no time to implement his style, guiding Leicester to a fifth-place finish in his first full season at the club.
Leicester missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season following defeat to Manchester United.
It was a similar story in 2020/21 as Leicester missed out on a top-four finish following defeat to Tottenham on the final day of the season.
But there was still a moment to cherish at Wembley as Leicester beat Chelsea to win the FA Cup and achievement that has etched Rodgers’ name into Foxes history.

The former Liverpool boss is understood to be on Man City’s radar as they prepare for life without Pep Guardiola.
According to The Times’ Jonathan Northcroft, City have already made that abundantly clear to Rodgers himself.
“Manchester City have been working on Brendan Rodgers for years. He’s been on their list for years,” he told The Transfer Window Podcast.
“He (Rodgers) knows that they like him, they let him know that they like him on the basis that if they ever come to change Pep Guardiola, or when Pep leaves, they’d be interested in him.”

The development has emerged in light of a recent report from ESPN that claims Rodgers now sits top of Manchester United’s managerial shortlist if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sacked.
Both Manchester clubs are now set to do battle for the services of Rodgers, who has already reaffirmed his commitment to Leicester following recent links to Newcastle.
“100 per cent,” Rodgers replied when asked if he was committed to Leicester. “I’ve got a contract until 2025. I absolutely love being here.
“I’m very fortunate, I’ve got a great chief executive (Susan Whelan) who runs the club, and a director of football (Jon Rudkin) I have a close relationship with, and a group of players I really enjoy working with. We have an infrastructure here that allows us to compete.
“For me, as long as they don’t want to move me, I’m very happy here.

“I’ve seen the reports around it. It doesn’t help anyone, particularly Steve and Newcastle. It’s the type of week I don’t like in the modern game.”
Guardiola recently hinted he will depart the Etihad Stadium when his contract expires in 2023, outlining his plan for what could come next.
“Next step will be a national team, if there is a possibility. A national team is the next step,” he said at an XP Investimentos event in September.
“After seven years on this team, I think I’m going to have a stop. I’m going to have to take a break, see what we’ve done.
“And in the process, I would like to train a South American [team], European [national side], playing a Copa América – I want to have that experience.”
