West Brom and Manchester United are gearing up for their 26th meeting in the Premier League era. United won 1-0 in their clash at Old Trafford earlier this season, with the Red Devils also winning 2-1 on their last visit to the Hawthorns in the 2017/18 campaign.

West Brom are 19th in the table, 12 points from safety and boss Sam Allardyce knows they are entering the last-chance saloon in their bid to beat the drop.

“There is no lack of effort from this group of players, there is no one not trying, I can’t point the finger at anyone for not giving what they have got,” said Allardyce.

“I am sick of going on about it, it means I won’t be sleeping too well unfortunately. Very, very quickly we will have to start beating any team we come across.

“When we play the big teams we will have to win, that is coming across now with the last 15 games coming and we have to start against Manchester United.

“We have to beat Manchester United like Sheffield United did, like Burnley beat Liverpool, like Brighton beat Liverpool. It is going to have to happen to us very soon.”

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased with the way his team responded to beat West Ham in the FA Cup, having seen victory ripped from their grasp with the last kick of the ball in the 3-3 draw against Everton last weekend.

“Of course going through is always the main thing in the cup,” said Solskjaer.

“And for us bouncing back after the disappointing last kick of the ball the other day, so very pleased with the mentality, how they reset their attitude and we’re positive about going through.

“I think the players saw the game out really well. We are getting stronger and fitter.”
