Arsenal players were singing the William Saliba song in the dressing room after their comfortable 3-0 victory over Bournemouth according to Mikel Arteta. Gooners have created a chant to the tune of the song ‘tequila’ for the young centre-half as a reward for his impressive performances at the start of the season.
The Frenchman was once again one of the Gunners’ best players at the Vitality and produced the most memorable moment of the match when he scored in the 54th minute. It was something of a wonder goal with the 21-year-old curling a sumptuous strike beyond Cherries’ goalkeeper Mark Travers from the edge of the area. The feat was made more impressive by the fact it came via the defender’s weak foot.
For most of the match, Arsenal supporters could be heard singing their new song for Saliba, cleverly rhyming his name with the word tequila to make it fit the pre-existing song. Now Arteta has said the players were singing it themselves in the changing room after the victory.
“The boys were singing it in the dressing room,” he said during his post-match press conference. “It is a good song”.

Saliba has completely turned around his Arsenal career since returning from loan with Marseille in the summer. He has been on the club’s books since 2019 when he arrived in a £27million deal from Saint Etienne before he was loaned straight back to the side. He was loaned out to Nice the following season before leaving for a third time to join Les Olympians. He impressed during his time in the French Riviera allowing him to break into the French national team for the first time.
There had been rumours the defender could leave the club permanently this summer with talk circling that he had fallen out with Arteta over his lack of game time. However, these fears have quickly been dispelled as a result of impressive performances during the early stages of the season. He has already displaced England international Ben White from centre-back with the former Brighton man now lining up at right back.
Saliba has established himself as a firm fans favourite, something which has only been enforced by his goal today and his new song.

Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith was keen to praise the Gunners’ boss for the way he has handled the Frenchman’s situation, with the player and the club reaping the benefits as a result.
“Saliba has been welcomed into the fold by the players and the fans,” Smith explained. “He would have gained a lot of confidence in France and especially making his debut for the national team, when really he couldn’t find a place at his club.
“He’s come back, Arteta has shifted Ben White to right-back and we will see if that continues. Fair play to Arteta.”
Saliba helped Arsenal to continue their 100% start to the season, moving to the top of the table overnight.
