Manchester United fans have been left on the edge of their seat for a number of weeks as question marks linger over the club's future.

Now it has been revealed that Sheikh Jassim has submitted a second formal bid for the Red Devils, according to Sky Sports. Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have been the leading parties in contention to buy the club, with the two billionaire heavyweights battling it out to take the club off the Glazers' hands.

However, Thomas Zilliacus joined the race earlier this week. Zilliacus, a 69-year-old Finnish mobile mogul, this week emerged as the latest interested party in buying the Red Devils from the Glazer family. He submitted his own bid to the Raine Group, which is handling the potential sale.

But he's since proposed a triumvirate partnership with the two main contenders, Qatari billionaire banker Sheikh Jassim and Britain's richest man Ratcliffe, so they can combine their mega-bank balances for the better of the club.

But it appears Jassim is now looking to take the club on himself, and United fans are losing their minds over the potential sale to the Qatari.

One wrote: "What a thing to wake up to." One fan got a bit carried away when the news dropped on Saturday morning. "Next transfer window we buying Mbappe, Jude [Bellingham] and Barcelona," tweeted another.

A third said: "We are ready to have the sugar daddy money."

Both Ratcliffe and his Qatari rivals missed their soft 9pm deadline on Wednesday to put forward their new offers for the Old Trafford club. The deadline was extended by the Raine Group, who are in charge of handling the proposed sale, with Ratcliffe's chemical company INEOS making its move on Thursday.

An INEOS spokesperson said on Thursday: “Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS can confirm we have submitted a revised bid."
